Our Approach

Stonechair Capital partners alongside companies working with African energy assets. Through this partnership we strive to de-risk assets and management for future investors.

Our investments strengthen energy sub-sectors and use local networks to generate significant income for local businesses while providing tangible returns on capital deployed. Therein is the multiplier effect that we strive for in every investment. By improving the access to growth capital a Stonechair portfolio company is able to reach for its goal as a valuable African energy company.

Our Story

Founded in 2009, Stonechair Capital is a Private Equity firm that is an energy investor at its core. The essence of the firm was birthed from the founder’s experiences in the energy space throughout Africa. The use of energy has evolved throughout Africa and so have Stonechair’s investments over time. Projects of all sizes require attention and capital across Africa.

Meet the Team

Stonechair brings together investing, advising, and living experiences for a focused and real-world approach to energy in Africa

Christopher McLean

Founding Partner & CEO

Chris has been a venture capitalist and PE investor in energy projects for 20 years. Before starting Stonechair Capital in 2009, he was the Head of Capital Markets, and the Senior Investment Banker at a resource focused boutique bank and the VP of International Opportunities at a national firm in Canada. The family office and PE experiences since 2008 have made African focused investments the priority of the firm continuing his earlier experience. Taking a phrase from Goethe to heart, Chris “investigates what is and not what pleases” about energy investments in Africa.
